The Quadruple Aim is a foundational framework in healthcare that guides efforts to improve system-wide outcomes. It focuses on four interdependent goals: enhancing the patient experience, improving population health, reducing the cost of care, and supporting the well-being of care teams. By aligning innovation and clinical practice with these objectives, healthcare organizations can deliver more effective, equitable, and sustainable care.
Enhancing the Patient Experience
Patients want to feel informed and empowered. In 2024, Surescripts Real-Time Prescription Benefit was used more than 788 million times—up 23.5% from the previous year. This gave prescribers and patients visibility into medication costs and covered alternatives at the point of care, helping reduce prescription abandonment and improve adherence.
Advancing Population Health
Population health requires timely, accurate, and actionable data. In 2024, we delivered 27.2 billion health intelligence transactions—a 14.2% increase year-over-year. Tools like Medication History for Populations and Record Locator & Exchange enabled clinicians to access longitudinal patient data, supporting better-informed decisions and proactive care.
These capabilities are especially critical for managing chronic conditions and coordinating care across settings.
Supporting Care Team Well-Being
Clinician burnout is real—and rising. We’re helping address it by reducing administrative burden and simplifying workflows. In 2024, 1.34 million prescribers used E-Prescribing to process 2.6 billion e-prescriptions. That’s time saved, errors avoided, and more focus on patient care.
By digitizing routine tasks like eligibility checks and automating prior authorizations for medications, we’re giving clinicians back valuable time and cognitive bandwidth.
Reducing the Cost of Care
Healthcare costs are unsustainable. But smarter workflows and better data can help. In 2024, we delivered 3.31 billion medication histories, helping reduce prescriber burdens of managing the medication list and prevent adverse drug events. And by enabling price transparency at the point of prescribing, we helped patients and payers avoid unnecessary expenses.
Scaling Impact Through the Network Alliance
None of this happens in isolation. It happens because of the Surescripts Network Alliance—millions of clinicians, pharmacists, PBMs, health plans and technology vendors working together to make healthcare better.
This scale allows us to drive change not just in isolated pockets, but across the entire healthcare ecosystem.
Looking Ahead
We’re not done. We’re investing in deeper automation, smarter intelligence, and stronger connections to keep advancing the Quadruple Aim. Because when we align innovation with clinical purpose, we don’t just improve healthcare—we transform it.
